Shelia Mortlock’s work was featured in one of my favorite stitching books, Drawn to Stitch: Line, Drawing, and Mark-Making in Textile Art by Gwen Hedley. That’s how I first got to know her. These are examples from her Marks in Time series. Here’s what she says about it on her website:
“For many years, old stone weathered by time and witness to passing events, has been an inspiration, and this current body of work, looking at stone masons’ chisel marks, reflects this continuing fascination.”
I’m always interested to see what people become fascinated with, to see what subjects their work focuses on. There are lots more in this series on Shelia Mortlock’s website as well as her other work and links to her blog, workshops, and bio.
